Why can't you measure the enthalpy change of the conversion of anyhdrous copper sulfate into hydrated copper sulfate directly?
Also how are you suppose to know which reactions can be measured directly and which ones can't?
Any answers will be much appreciated 😊

You may want to verify my response:

With this particular hydration reaction, you don't know exactly how much water to add to hydrate every single bit of the anhydrous powder. Some parts of the powder may be more saturated with water than other parts (imagine using a plastic dropper to add some water to some anhydrous copper sulfate in a watch glass).

Also, shoving a thermometer into that kinda reaction doesn't seem practical to me.
