    okay so basically I have this lump in an awkward place...am I allowed to use the walk in clinic for this...do they have the authority to book me a hospital appointment if it is something serious or can only my gp do this?

    Yes you can go to a walk in centre, they arrange further treatment if needed. Visit asap and they will advise you

    There are certian treatments and actions they cannot take. They can't diagnose, prescribe or test certian things for instance. I believe they can refer you to certian other forms of care, but not all. They can at the very least tell you if you should be concerned and who you would need to see so if you can't make it to a GP they are the next best thing. If you were unable to be booked into a hospital by them you would at least be able to use the fact you had seen them as a reason for a more urgent appointment if it were something serious.
    They would be able to diagnose things like cysts and that's a common cause of odd lumps.

    So yeah go to the walkin. And don't worry about the possibilities. Usually it's just something like a cyst or something else benign.
