Im stuck on the moles part. In most questions you work out the moles of Mg and Copper (II) sulphate e.g. both reactants so which do you use in the equation? i heard its the limiting reagent but i have no idea what that means and how can you tell which one to use? thanks so much.

The limiting reagent is the one that is used up first. Clearly, once one of the reagents is used up the reaction has to stop.

To find the limiting reagent you have to calculate the moles of each and ask yourself the question "how much of reagent A do I need for complete reaction of reagent B?", using the balanced equation.
