    As promising as this is, it still looks like this election will just repeat the last one to an extent - the PP won't get close to a majority, and even with Ciudadanos they won't make 176. Usually they'd cut a deal with the nationalist parties to prop them up in that situation, but now the nationalist parties are demanding independence and Rajoy has dug in too much against any prospect of that even if he wanted to change his mind.

    With regard to the PSOE, Pedro Sanchez has dug himself into a hole - he chose a second election rather than a deal with either the PSOE or Podemos - so how can he credibly accept one now - it would be a huge climb-down?

    The Almanis prediction market estimates that there's roughly a 75% of a stalemate following the rerun of the Spanish election in June: Which party will win June's general election in Spain? I wonder what they will do if they keep getting stalemates after every election?
