But I assumed the centre of mass was at the centre of the ball so surely the distance of the ball would be 12+5/2cm

i put 100w even though i worked out it to be 114w due to one of the pieces of info that i used being to one sig fig. do you think that is still correct?

Think you had to use lambda = h/mv. With an alpha particle, there are 4 protons/neutrons, so the equation turns into lambda = h/4mv, leading to 4lambda = h/mv.
