can anyone briefly explain the ventilation system of an insect? My exam is in 2 days - and i only really vaguely get the concept so anyone who could explain it extremely briefly (3 or 4 sentences) would be of so much help - thanks so much

Ok so i am sitting the same exam://
insects:
-rough exoskeleton so no gaseous exchange can take place
-therefore, has small openings called spiracles where air enters and leaves.
-spiracles can be opened and closed by sphincters (kept close to reduce water loss)
-away from the spiracles is the trachea which carrys the air to the body
-moves by diffusion
-o2 dissolves in the moisture in the walls, so that it can diffuse into the surronding cells.
^^thats the basics, the discontinuos exchange just involves the three parts of open, closed and fluttering.
sorry if it no help
GOOD LUCK
