For edexcel does S3 have to go into further maths or can it go into normal maths?

It can go into either, the board will prioritize your grade in Maths over Further Maths unless you request otherwise.

It is great if that is the case, are you sure? I thought I read somewhere else that the higher modules weren't allowed in normal maths?

Ah my mistake, I apologize. Certain Maths Units can go into Further Maths but this does not work inversely.

A Level Maths must be made from one of the following cominations

    C1, C2, C3, C4, M1, M2
    C1, C2, C3, C4, S1, S2
    C1, C2, C3, C4, D1, D2
    C1, C2, C3, C4, M1, S1
    C1, C2, C3, C4, S1, D1
    C1, C2, C3, C4, M1, D1

For a full breakdown, see the PDF attached.
