I read an interested survey from the government recently that claimed that fathers are not as
involved in their child's education as mums, with just 12% of men claiming more involvement than
their partner, as compared with 72% of women. Do you agree or disagree? Why do you think this is?
I reckon that dads aren't really sure how to get involved (or so it was for my dad when I was
growing up)...

It depends what you call "education" both my kids know how to sharpen planes, use chisels saws make
small electrical flip-flop; change plugs and test fuses etc., I never heard them read or checked
their handwriting. I have taken an active part in passing on my own skills and you'll probably find
most dad's do the same. My father never once heard me how to read but he did show me how to use most
of the tools I use today. I remember being "skilled" by my father and 'educated' by my mother but to
be fair mum did also teach a lot of culinary skills. She made sure all ten kids could make bread and
cook a basic meal (usually roast beef , mash and gravy). And dad, though he didn't know it, did do a
lot of moral philosophy while he was showing us how to cut glass or tune an engine. Roger )
