Is it boring at Chichester?

There's plenty going on in the SU pretty much every night, 7 days a week.

Chichester as in the town itself is more pubs & wine bars than anything else (usual quiet SE town really). But there is Spoons, Wests, Trents (very popular), the Vestry all in the town centre. Further out, at the cinema place, there's a Lloyds, Frankie & Benny's, Chicago Rock etc. The club Thursdays is further out from town which is pretty popular too. Also got a couple of clubs in Bognor which is pretty easy to get to as uni bus runs between the two campuses.

Plus you've got the nightlife of Portsmouth & Brighton - Portsmouth is 30mins on the train, Brighton is an hour ish.

Considering it's pretty small you don't tend to notice it. And there's also the very active sports club side to the uni as well.

Oh and I almost forgot - the annual Bognor Beer race which is when the majority of the students dress up in fancy dress and run from pub to pub. Starts about 10 in the morning and goes on for hours!

Oh, that's reassuring. Thanks for the reply. How long does it take by bus to travel between campuses?
And where do most people do their shopping? Where is the nearest, best shopping place?
Reply 7
Takes between 20-30mins, depending on traffic.

Shopping wise: Chichester's town itself, isn't too bad. Got lots of new shops opening in the next 4-6 weeks or so (H&M, River Island etc). Has most of the well known brands. Brighton is fantastic for shopping, not just because of the lanes. Portsmouth's pretty ok too, got the main lot in a centre called Cascades & and the main shopping road. Also has an outlet place called Gunwharf, which also has quite a few bars, cinema, bowling etc. Or you can go further afield to Southampton but that's not as good as it used to be.

Food shopping wise: closest food shop is Iceland, which is in the town centre. Tescos is out on the main chi bypass, but a free bus runs between the cathedral and Tescos every 20mins or so. But if there's a big group of you, might be worth looking at taxi costs (especially coming back with food) as that way you wont have to lug it up College Lane.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I'm being catered for... so I won't have to buy much food. Do you know what it's like for people in catered accom.?
Reply 9
Pretty alright actually - one of my mate's had catered in her first year. Food isn't that bad either. Some of it is really good.

You'll have a blast, SU is really active etc and your warden will make sure you have some fun

I'm thinking about applying to do English and History next year and I was just wondering if you choose which campus to be at or if it depends on your subject.

English and History are taught on the main campus (Chichester). If you apply for halls you'll be on either campus depending on what you get allocated. Obviously you get to list the accommodation in order of preference so if you want to be on the Bognor campus you put that as your first choice.

The uni run a free bus between the two campus sites so it's pretty easy to get from to one to the other. Bognor's cheaper to rent in for the second and third years and is a bit more of a student town rather than Chi is. Everyone I know who lived in Bognor loved it despite having to get a bus to their lectures. The main library's on the Chi campus and it's the most social of the two campuses but it is upto personal preference. Both campuses are lovely

Oh and history - good choice

Ahh right thanks. I know both Chichester and Bognor quite well cause I have family in Pagham and can imagine being happy at either if I applied there. So I take it you enjoy the history course and would recommend it.
Best 3 years of my life - thoroughly recommend it
I don't go to Chi Uni but i've lived in/near Chichester all my life and it's a pretty good little town - decent shops/bars/nightlife, quite up-market. Typical market town really.

My friend goes to the Bishop Otter campus and she loves it so i'd recommend it on her behalf!
I’ve applied to Chichester to study English and Creative Writing (I’ve applied to a few other places but this is at the top my list at the moment). I have a few random questions:

I was wondering if anyone could provide any feedback on the course. I was also wanting to get an idea of the atmosphere of the place, what's it like to be a student there? etc. Also, I know it is a sporty university, although I’m not a sporty person – are there many clubs/societies that aren’t geared around sports?
