Infringement of privacy is justified by the public interest it serves; for example an investigation into a highly sensitive location such as a hospital uncovering poor standards of care, may necessitate the secret filming of patients, even though they may be vulnerable and victims rather than perpetrators of wrongdoing. Where we have prima facie evidence and the filming is necessary to expose serious wrongdoing, the public interest may justify the intrusion against the patients.

"Section 36 of the DPA states that personal data – including video footage of an individual – captured only for limited domestic purposes is not covered by the restrictions of the DPA"

    It's not illegal.

    And that's vile, jesus.
No, normal people do not urinate in kitchens.

You're wrong. You have to be specifically warned if you're being filmed, by every party doing filming unless you're in a public place with no reasonable expectation of privacy. Filming without the target's consent in their own domicile is not legal, and the evidence cannot be used in most court cases, with the exception of cases where the evidence would be impossible to obtain otherwise, such as in a domestic abuse case

    (Original post by magicelephant)
    i was drunk
That's just nasty man, doesn't matter if you're drunk, pissing in a communal area is not acceptable, and could likely result in you being kicked out.

As for the surveillance, it now depends on how your living arrangement is set up, who had installed the camera, and whether this was covered in any of your documentation.

Criticism/edits welcome, this is from memory, not documentation!
