Well what kind of things do you want to know about the University? We have people who have lived in all different types of accom and it's always a popular place to go. I've spoken to people who have travelled all the way from Birmingham just to have a night (and a day) out which seems to show off what a great place aberystwyth is.
Well, obviously it's Aberystwyth, no contest really Not being Welsh is no problem, the largest % of people that come to Aber from England are from the Midlands. Never seen any problems between locals and students that i've heard people talk about in the past.. It's not a city but it has most of the shops you need, 50+ pubs and of course the sea! Andd because it's not as big as alot of the city unis you find it's a much friendlier place, you'd really have to try hard not to make a good few friends in your first couple of weeks! You bump into people all the time around campus and in town... Through living in Penbryn I met loads of people straight away, the only regret I have so far is not getting to know enough people doing Geography too.
oo that's impressive someone managed to name every single place, tbh I thought there would be alot more local pubs that the uni students didn't really use, obviously I was mistaken!
ok ok....i'll give it to u... u people sure are good at selling this place!! u've got me all excited now!! haha any people still goin to be there next year??...so u can show me which of these 60 pubs is the best??
Well we're all going to be there next year, just some of us will be old (ie myself ) and everyone has different opinions. It depends what you like if you wanna just sit around and socialse or if you wanna get drunk or just want to be able to stay out all night. I always thought that the claim of 52 bars included Llanbadarn.

I've also applied to aber and bangor, aber being my firm and bangor being my insurance. I've accepted my unconditional at aber though so thats where I'll be going and hopefully ill be staying in Rosser Bangor is my local uni so if i went there i'd be living at home though..
Bangor's okay and everything. I dont know much about the uni itself, but as the place goes, its fairly small (it is actually a city but i'd class it as more of a town because of its size). There's a decent amount of pubs and clubs etc, and the local people are all pretty friendly though the majority are welsh first language.
seeing as your goin to be doing law i'd say aber because apparently their law department is excellent. Have you been to any of their open days? the uni's really nice and the people seem really friendly and dont worry about not being able to speak welsh! the majority of people i heard where speaking english when i vistited
I've visited Bangor, once to play football and then a couple of weeks ago when I wne to their summer ball (we came to the conclusion that ours was better, but then we were very bias). Things are more spread out than Aber, and Aber seemed to have much more of a friendly, community feel to it. Can't really say much more in terms of comparing the two tho. Your best bet would be to, if possible, visit the two, as that may well help you decide.
Well, I'm a bit biased since I've never been to bangor, but I can say that Aber, from the impression I got when I visited and from what I've heard on this website, is a really accepting place (which is important to me because I am coming from abroad), and a great small community; when the students are there it's about 21,000 people, which is about 5 times smaller than the place I grew up in and will be a welcome change.
1. [One of the] Best law department in Wales. (I cant remember what the figures are, but if I say it's the best someone from cardiff would probably take legal action... )
2. They let anyone in... now I don't mean that in a bad way, just that if you're concerned about your offer they are normally quite good at letting you in if you don't meet it fully.
3. Very friendly, welcoming and student orientated, best pub crawls ever!
4. For a small town it has quite an errr 'metropolitan' feel, that's the only phrase I can think off; don't worry, it's not full of people surrounding you speaking welsh. People here are understandably proud of their culture and language - it doesn't mean they're backward! As someone above said, most of the people there are midlanders, or from the chester/liverpool area and also all over wales. It's a nice mix.
Come here! Particularly as Law is a subject they do everywhere, if you're picking between two welsh universities, pick the one with the better department - it's well established and highly respected with some very respected academics, plus the new centre for legal practice means it's only going to get better! So you can do the 4th year LPC and stay if you like
I'm student at Aberystwyth currently studying History and Welsh History and I love it here. There's a good feel to the place, loads o pubs and an excellent student Union here. I also have friends that are currently studying law, and the department has a very good reputation and arrange of different modules! It's entirely up to you of cause but I would highly recommend Aberystwyth, and that's not because I'm a student here it's because I generally think that Aber is the place to be and the recent Times Online Student Satisfaction table, proves that Aber is AWESOME
Well, I live not far away from bangor and am applying to Aberystwyth to do law! Bangor's law department is relativley new, and recently there's been some criticism of it (or so I've heard!). Also, Bangor isn't particularly excellent for a night out, it's fine and everything, but it lacks clubs/pubs. Plus if you're worried about people being mostly welsh well then I'd go for Aber because in Bangor most of the students are local and welsh first language. Hope that helps!
