can anyone help me form an essay on freud's rejection of religion?- alevel religion

Basically, just include the main reasons why Freud thought religion was damaging to a person's mental health

    1. Neurosis- he saw religion as a 'universal obsessional neurosis', likened it to mental illnesses like OCD because of repetitive meaningless actions, and failure to complete said actions resulted in guilt
    2. Wish fulfillment- people like to imagine that good actions lead them to heaven
    3. Projection- people project the need for a father on to a heavenly image of an all powerful father (God)
    4. Regression- the need for a father to solve your problems is a means of regressing back to childhood, by doing this we can never reach full mental maturity (according to Freud)- therefore we can be accused of infantilism.

I did my Religion & Contemporary Society paper a couple weeks ago, and this was basically what I included, though there may have been more that I've forgotten...good luck!!
