Which technique would be best to use to distinguish between a solution of sodium chloride and magnesium chloride?
IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Microwave spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, Atomic emission spectroscopy?
Please explain thank you

I'm not even at degree yet but know I'd guess Atomic emission. That said I did a summer uni project and we used as AAS which was used to measure metal ions. The postdoc said it was like doing quantitive flame tests and a flame test would definitely tell sodium and magnesium chlorides apart.

You could use nmr if you really wanted to, but yes atomic emission is the way to go.
