I think I've got post-exam blues....does such a thing exist?
Kinda along the lines of post-natal depression

It's almost as if my life is lacking with meaning and purpose now that my exams are finished and this has been replaced with fear and uncertainty about the future. I've never felt so depressed in my life :frown:

Anyone else feel like this?
Any tips on how I could overcome this?

I kinda know how you feel. I thought once my exams finished then a weight would have been lifted and life could be happy-jolly again, but now I can't stop thinking about how bad I might have done and I guess the lack of committment I put into the exams. I think extreme fatigue isn't helping much either, so I'm just getting as much sleep as possible and trying to stay positive. Talk to your friends about it and try and go out and have fun to take your mind off things? Hopefully you'll get the results you want and that uncertainty will evaporate at least a little. Good luck!

Well, I guess for the last however long you've been focused on the exams and now they're not there life seems a little empty as a big piece of it has gone.

Maybe find a new challenge or whatever over the summer?
get ur ass outside  its lovely weather atm, rainy one day then warm and sunny the next... have to say at the risk of sounding old it makes me feel awesome

I am!
No purpose, except waiting for my next shifts at work
Nothing to do except post on TSR all day
Don't get to see my crush every day (possibly the number one cause of my post-examination blues)

Just feels like I'm wasting the time until I go to Uni now.

I'm pretty sure it's just a phase, plus, unless this was your last year, you know you will have exams and work etc again once the summer is over. So just enjoy your free time while you can, do all the things you never have time for or just sleep a lot and do whatever you feel like. Summer doesn't last forever

I know what you mean. I get this after doing a big show (i do performing arts). I'm generally at rehearsals till 5 every night (at the earliest, often it's 7.30 finish!) and onece it's over i feel really down. The only thing really to do is find something else to fill the void! Reading, TSR, go outside, see mates (they'll probably be feeling the same!

Keep your chin up and

you have been living at uni for 2 years despite dropping out after 2 weeks and your parents are sending you money you sponge off as they still think you are on the course?

You sir deserve depression.

Same happend to me for Drama exams, we rehearsed like weekends, nights, non stop ...i hated it so much...but after the whole exam i was like ... wow i miss that... lol

you know its funny, my ex gave me a letter i'd written to him, must have been the summer before i went to uni. I think its safe to say i felt like you did. i was so worried about my furture, if indeed i even had a future. i was scared about not getting a job, scared about screwing it all up. scared i'd have failed my exams and it would all have been for nothing.

but you know what? i've been at uni for 2 years now, i've met some amazing people, had some awesome nights out and had such a laugh. and i've learnt things, about my course, but also about myself. i know you might feel down right now, but you have no idea what the next few years will hold
I'm puzzled by your post :s-smilie: I understand people maybe being depressed about the exam period, but after it's over is meant to be a time of fun and relaxation.

It can only be boring if you don't do anything with it. Go places you didn't have a chance to while you had exams, catch up with your friends or start playing tennis or something. Entertaining yourself is your responsibility, nobody else is going to do it for you. I also wonder if perhaps the term 'depression' is being used a bit lightly here, it sounds like you're just bored and maybe anxious about your results.

there is no point whatsoever feeling 'depressed' because you're worried you may have done badly. there's nothing you can do about it now till results come out so you might as well just put it to the back of your head. why don't you organise some nights out with mates, or days out etc? that's what my plans are once i'm finished, not moping about at home all day.
I can't wait until exams have finished this year
But I sort of know what you mean - last year after exams when we just had to go back to school. I just couldn't be bothered. It wasn't fun at all.
I kinda know the feeling, its hard to understand if you haven't experianced it. But just enjoy the time off as you'll probably never get this much time off with nothing to do for the rest of your life, unless you become unemployed. Everyday is friday now, so enjoy.

Yes. I wouldn't call it depression though. Just a transient spell of ****tyness!

As for tips, this depends on what exams you have just finished, if final year degree level then I don't know what to suggest. Do you want to explain a bit more, or what your going to be doing in september, ie A-levels / Uni?

I kinda feel like this, but I have 3 more A2 exams left with one tomorrow. It may be that you are so mentally tire and stressed from your exams. You need to go out with friends and watch a film or go for a cycle ride, do something active and relaxing. The other problem is that your likely to be waiting for the results which are in august and you may or may not think you have done so well as you would like to do so your dreading your results.

If I were you then I think you should plan your holiday a bit so that you forget it, eg) I went youth hostelling in sumer last year in the lake destrict with my best friend. This year im goin on a ...choir trip to florence and spain for 2 weeks with some friends. Apartt from that I will probably meet up with friends quite a lot and do some excersise.

After my last 2 exams I plan to go bowling with friends, why dont you cellebrate and rest?

Anon 2, if that's true you are an appalling person.
Jeremy Kyle judges you.
I have this problem too. The waiting period for the results to see whether I'll get into Law or not is horrible... I just contstantly have a dull feeling in my stomach about what could have gone wrong and what that means for my future. I hate leaving the house. I'm completely mentally exhausted and wake up exhuasted after even 12 hours of sleep. This is probably mainly because I put all my other problems on hold to study and now they all seem worse than ever and all at once to deal with. So yeah, you're not alone.
