hey i'm stressing quite a lot about my dissertation idea, as i'm still not totally sure as to what exactly a dissertation involves (stupid, i know)
i kind of want to do it on a green criminology basis - these are my ideas so far...
a marxist analysis of animals in captivity/being used for entertainment/wildlife crime - as the reason animals are in captivity/used for entertainment is for profit. but how would i go about doing this - as in what research methods? would i ask people who work in say zoos etc their opinions?
or i'm thinking about doing it like the difference between domestic animals and other animals in terms of what is classed as animal abuse eg. people who abuse dogs are often punished yet thousands of pigs are killed daily - i could still do this with a marxist basis as it is capitalism - the profit of the meat industry that probably pushes this difference.
i just don't understand how i would write so much to fill a dissertation about this? like i could write an essay on it but i don't understand how to make these topics into a dissertation
thank you in advance x

Hey, don't stress about it too much, I wrote mine in three days. Just think of it as five mini essays, its doable once its all broken down into sections. With regards to your research methods, i'd recommend qualitative research as it'll provide a greater insight into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses rather than the quantitative route. It would be good to ask the zoo employees about their personal opinions but maybe compare it with what the general public think. By doing this your discussion section will have more depth as you can compare the two perspectives and develop a good argument. Hope this helps!
