Can someone please, in a simple manner, explain to me why in Glycolysis the glucose has to turn into fructose (via isomerization). --- why cant the Glucose still have the same structure?
Thank you

To trap the glucose in the cell and to form a compound that can readily be modified into a 3 carbon phosphorylated compound (triose phosphate), in order to be oxidised and form pyruvate.
