Textbooks for PGCE!

Hello,
Calling all post-PGCE'ers. I've just got my 2:1 (woo) so am looking forward to starting my Primary PGCE in September. I've been given a very short reading list of 4 books for recommended core texts but I'm not sure if I should buy them now and read them over the summer or wait until more books are available and buy them all in one go (I know the learning matters websites gives a discount on orders of more than 10 books). What did you all find the cheapest and most convenient method? Thanks

First of all - congrats on your 2:1! WOOOOO!

I bought the books from the reading list and then only used them for one assignment, which I could have just borrowed from the university library.

I wish I hadn't wasted my money now - I hardly had time to read them once I started anyway!

I agree with Miss_W - many PGCE textbooks aren't really up to much, and won't be useful beyond training - you might be better investing in a good Ed. Psych. text. Beyond that, I'd recommend...

And the Times and Guardian education supplements.

Thanks both of you  I've often heard about 'Getting the buggers to behave' so I'll get that off Amazon, and not jump straight into buying the others before I've checked out the library!

Congratulations on the 2:1 !
I agree with borrowing from the library. I do it for all my text books.

Don't buy any books. Use your uni library instead. Most texts are online anyway. Just a waste of money otherwise.

Behaviour books are partially useful. It generally comes down to practice makes perfect.

Except if your on a SCITT course and 30 miles from your Uni. Or on a placement miles from uni. Or if you want to make notes in the books. Or if you want to keep them to help your career after training.
