I'm not sure if you still need help. One method that surprisingly worked for me was 'random underlining'. When casually going through your study notes, start randomly underlining short phrases based on no criteria at all. At first it will seem a futile exercise since it won't feel like you're absorbing anything at all. With time, however, your super-conscious mind will automatically start picking up on the crucial points and absorbing will come as a by-product of that process. Do this twice or thrice and soon you'll get the hang of it.
Of course, the success of this method is dependent on several factors, among them course of study.
I hope this helps not just you, but others who might want to give it a try.
    Good luck with the exams.
