Getting a hospital pre-reg is competitive but I had never let myself feel dissuaded from applying for one because of that, having said that I am not sure what the situation will be when you graduate? More graduates applying for hospital pre-reg's ?
As it stands I have not seen a lot of posts advertised with demands for Consultant Pharmacists although I have come across the odd Consultant Pharmacist working in a NHS trust. I cannot comment further as I have not come across many and I'm not sure of what scope there is for a Consultant Pharmacist within the NHS in particular at present.
My suggestion would be that you research the areas a bit more and try gain some experience in these sectors to give yourself an edge and find out If it is for you. Perhaps also think why it is that you really want to study Pharmacy in general because as I'm sure you've read and heard it has changed quite a lot.
