Hi, I am doing four AS levels, and must drop one for A2 as its sixth form policy. I am taking two "soft" subjects,I did not know these even existed until half way through the course. I must drop one of these. BTEC Level 3 IT , I am getting a Distinction * in all coursework and it's 100% coursework based. Although I'm getting the highest grade, its really really really boring. Other subject = A level Product Design, I am predicted a B/A grade at AS and B at A2, while my results are slightly lower than that of BTEC IT, I enjoy this subject more.
Basically, what is more respected (neither, I know but I have to pick one) ? Also, what looks better B in A-level Product Design or Distinction* in BTEC Level 3 IT ?
    Thank you in advance,
Hope you all had a good half term,
    Lee
*I want to do a geography degree, so don't think either of these subjects will even help me, will they ?

Perhaps stick with PD just because its an A level as some unis do not accept Btecs

That's what I leaning more towards as I enjoy it and its an A level, just thought because I'm getting higher grade in BTEC IT uni's could prefer that. But, its a BTEC.

    Thanks for your response,

It really depends on you. Barely any universities would not accept a BTEC along with 2 A levels. Have you looked at the entry requirements for universities you might apply to? If you think you'd need the extra UCAS points/better grade from a D* you might need to stick with IT if no then you might be better off sticking with what interests you. Alternatively, hold out until you get your AS results if you can as that might make your choice easier.

I have, many uni's are being quite vague recently on BTEC's, while they say 3*A levels at (e.g. ABB) when you go further down they then say "BTEC's considered/accepted on an individual basis" does this mean they accept or not ? Many uni's don't use the UCAS points system so maybe sticking with the 'traditional' 3 A-levels could work out better than just pushing for high UCAS points.
I agree, we should choose after AS level results but our sixth form would like to know beforehand in order complete our timetables. I'm sure if I asked to change my choices on/around results day they would change my timetable.

Thanks for your reply, very helpful.

I think you should be fine with a single BTEC, but why not try asking universities where you are thinking of applying which they would prefer? You can normally just email the admissions to ask.

My school also prefers to know know but there is an awful lot of switching around when the results come out, I would be surprised if you couldn't change if (just an example) you'd gone for DT and then landed up with a C at AS and changed your mind.
