Hiya, so I'm in year 12 at the moment and am wondering what to do after next year. All my friends are dead set on the idea of going to uni but it doesn't really appeal to me. I do German AS level and would really liove to be able to speak it nearly fluently! Thinking of going to Germany for 6 months and working just as a waitress or something to improve my language. Is there any work placement/gap year work schemes that exist? Or has anyone done some thing similar to this and can tell me if it's viable to do it or not? Thanks 😊

You could look into WWOOFing if you're not familiar with it already. The German page is here.

Do you know anyone currently living in Germany at the moment? If you're not keen on the idea of WWOOFing then you could always ask to stay with someone you've been on an exchange with (obviously offering to pay rent) and get a job like any other German teenager would.
