Hello, I'm Italian and I'll be starting an undergraduate course in Scotland in September.
I was wondering how opening a bank account works especially for non-UK students? I have my UCAS offer, but I don't have proof of address yet (I'll have it when they confirm my room in student halls)...
Should I wait until fresher's week or open it as soon as I have my address confirmed? And which are the best banks to open an account with? Will they give me a debit card?
    Thanks

You will probably have to wait until your in the UK as most banks would want to physically see your ID first, i dont think you'd be able to get a student account specifically without having a credit record here but you should be able to open a current account and get a debit card without much trouble.

Oh i see, you'd probably be able to get a basic current account now then if you've got your passport and some sort of proof of address
