I have a job interview next week (it's in retail) and would love an example of how to answer this question. I've been asked it in interviews before and didn't know what to say... I don't really have many hobbies
    - I like to walk and have an interest in computers neither of which is relevant to the job or would wow the interviewer.
    Please help!!
    Thanks!

    Get some hobbies/interests then.

My own reply to that question would be one of these - bear in mind my main job interest was comptuer programming when I was looking:
    • I have exchanged emails with Ken Thompson, we talked a little about early C and Unix versions (both of which he invented).
    • I have also exchanged emails with Bjarne Stroustrop (who invented C++) concerning the evolution of that language and how difficult it would have been to reimplement Unix in C++ rather than pure C.
    • I have also exchanged emails with Tim Paterson (who wrote the original DOS) about the early 86-DOS binaries that surfaced a while back. I can assert that he's actually a really nice guy.
    • I designed an hypothetical computer, invented its instruction set, and wrote an emulator for it. In a weekend.
    • I can play fourteen musical instruments - mostly I play the ukulele, with which I have been on TV and the radio, and at one point was one of less than a dozen people who had enough technical skill to be able to perform the finale to the William Tell Overture on it.
    • I am a published sci-fi and fantasy author.
    • I can read twelve langauges and constructed a language of my own as a teenager.
Basically it doesn't matter if it's totally relevant to the job you're being interviewed for. All that matters is that it's something worth showing off.
