I noticed there's no thread for the OCR GCSE music exam on Friday, so I thought I'd make one to help get everyone prepared! It's such a hard exam...does anyone have any revision tips?

Make sure u revise the 9 mark questions and remember how to structure them and know your composers so you can get east 10% in the paper. I got mine on Friday as well!

It sounds so simple, but make sure you can pick out certain instruments! Know your cadences, different types of ornamentation, key signatures, etc. When revising I like to listen to the music I'm going over- so if I'm revising tango then I'll listen to tango music, etc.

Memorise and use this structure to get full marks for the 9 marker:

D - dynamics
A - articulation
M - melody (ascending / descending etc.)
P - pitch
S - structure
H - harmony
I - instrumentation
R - rhythm
T - tempo
T - timbre
T - texture

Write all of those on the page next to the question (given for planning) and link each to the topic.

Learn voices and as many features as you can from all the different types of music.

How likely do you think different topics are going to show up? (Gamelan, Waltz, etc.)

Hi guys do you know what mark u need to get in the listening alone for an A*?
More than often, A* tends to be 90 - highest I've seen is 95. I think to be safe, anything over 90 is an A*, apart from in 2012 it was 80. I reckon I got 87 in this paper today, so I'm hoping for an A* but it probably isn't 😅 Coursework was good aswell so fingers crossed

I know for gamelan I put correct answers:
1. Indonesia
2. Gong ageng or gender (any typical gamelan instruments)
3. For the three features I put:
Based off slendro or pelog scale
Heterophonic texture
All instruments combine to make one overall piece

For the last question I got Beyoncé as a suitable performer obviously 😂. The drum kit did a fill before the chorus. There was no introduction. Backing voices came on line 8. When she sang listen it was a long held note and a melisma. The sound had constant diminuendos-false.That's all i can remember
