    Can anyone help me with these questions, I feel like the answer I got is wrong because in real life scenarios how would a 0.11cm diameter wire hold a person up. Also not too sure about my answer for b

    Surprises people, but that's about right for steel wires... and not very heavy people... when the load is applied steadily and carefully - but you'd want a larger safety margin in practical applications.

    I would have said something like "the weight must be balanced by the vertical component of tension in the rope... which is impossible if the rope is straight"

    my earlier comments about supporting a person on a 1mm rope applied to vertical ropes... the tensions in horizontal or near horizontal ropes are huge, very much higher than the vertical force you place on them.

    The reason the rope must always sag is because when the person stands on it, there is a downwards force on the rope, so to be in equilibrium there must also be an upwards force which is supplied by the vertical component of the tension in the sagging rope
