Why is freedom of religous expression important ?
I would say because freedom of religion is a fundamental Human Right, set out in Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights and it means that a government (or any other person for that matter) will not (and should not) persecute anyone on the basis of their religion. It is particularly topical at the moment, given what is happening currently in the middle east under the so-called Islamic State.

    I hope this helps somewhat.
