Need major help with the Open Reference part..

Ok sorry that this isnt to do with the Personal Statements as I've already done that part. What I am asking is who do I get to do the Open Reference part? Because I haven't been to school/college etc for the past year after failing my university 1st year Computing Studies HND (from 2002-2003), I have no idea who or which teacher do I get to make a reference for me on my forms since I'm planning to enter this year. Do I get a teacher from my previous failed university place or do I go all the way back to a teacher from my highschool/sixth form years (before Summer 2002)?
