SB = Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Somerfield (bit harder to find) and of course, the SHOP!

Clifton = the same + M&S food (maybe)

They all tiny? Some massive?

Most importantly, whats Somerfield's like? I work PT up here and I might be able to transfer to the branch down there, or because of my experience I know tesco or sainsbury's would happily take me on (but a transfer might not be ok..)

Of course, this doesn't say that the Sainsbury's is 20mins from SB, and the Waitrose is more like 35mins...

The Waitrose is probably closest but is expensive. The Tesco's on Whiteladies is probably your best bet. Only an Express, mind.

Being self-catered in SB would be ****, IMO.

Clifton's better off, they're pretty much equidistant between a Tesco and a massive Sainsbury's on the triangle. Possibly other places.

Your comment about Waitrose being 35 min and closer than sainsbury's which is 20min doesn't make much sense to me , and somerfield? Tiny little thing like the one I work in?

I WISH there was an M&S in Clifton! Where on earth did you get that idea!?

Clifton has a Tesco Express, a small Somerfield and is close to the Sainsbury's on the triangle. I really wouldn't call it massive though- their selection of fruit and vegetables is shocking. I have absolutely no idea where Waitrose is.

A lot of people at Goldney convinced their friends with cars to drive to either Morrisons at Cribbs Causeway (really nice and quite cheap) or the HUGE Tescos next to Ikea.

If you're living at Winkworth House or at one of the student houses near the precinct, you would probably be best off going to the biggish Sainsbury's near the Triangle. It's like a 10 minute from Winkworth House which is not bad at all considering how far the SB people have to walk to get to their nearest supermarket. The Tesco Express on Whiteladies Road is pretty crap as it's absolutely tiny and they don't have many good products available. If you're at SB walking to Tesco Express, you might as well walk 5 minutes further to the massive Sainsburys on Whiteladies Road...

The Sainsbury's is massive compared to the Tesco Express, the other supermarket on the way back to Stoke Bishop. I'd guess at it being about 10 times bigger....
dont forget the enorrrrrmous and rather exciting asda at cribbs! fun times...

Big Sainsbury's in Triangles? Since when there's a big sains there? The big Sainsbury's is on Whiteladies Road, aka Clifton Down. The one on Queens Road (ie near Triangles) is not that big, but big enough to get most of your groceries.

The massive 24h Tesco too far from the city centre (unless you take a bus there). The nearest Tesco (Tesco Metro) big enough for your groceries shopping is in Broadmead, not far away from the coach station. Tesco Express is crap because everything is more expensive there.

There's one Somerfield (quite small) near Tyndalls Avenue (the main university road). I don't buy my groceries there; I would rather walk an extra 5-10 mins to the big Sainsbury's in Clifton Down.

There's an M&S in Broadmead as well, if you're an M&S kind of person.

There's one Asda about 20-30 mins from city centre (near the train station) but the big one is in Cribbs (you need to get a bus there).

Hope that helps. =) Otherwise, use the store locator on the supermarket websites.
There's also a 24h Tesco in Henleaze, plus a small Somerfield with regular hours.

There's a large Tesco in Southmead too, which is less than a 10 minute drive from SB halls. Really useful for cheap BOGOF deals...

Rumour has it,there's an Aldi in Westbury, but have never found it :frown:

There's an ALDI and a LIDL almost next to each other in Southville!!

are there any co-ops in bristol (i'm guessing there are) if so where? my co-op i work in now has said they can try and get me a transfer (i hate co-op, but at least it will get me a job).
Reply 16
Haven't seen any co-ops.

Actually, haven't seen any co-ops since about 1996...try a store locater on the website?
Reply 17
There's a Co-op at the bottom of Park Street. If you're walking down Park Street, walk on the left hand side of the road and you will see the Co-op at the bottom of the hill.

You could just get together with some mates and get a delivery....
