None of my teachers mentioned anything about putting critics in our English lit essays so for my AS exam I didn't and just disucssed event contextual factors and techniques and quotes etc, however only now I've been told about critics and in so scared that I've failed now, like is it still possible to get a B?

No it's not necessary as such but if somewhere were to put in critics they of course would get marks if it was executed in a sophisticated manner.

But you won't lose marks for not mentioning any!

It can assist in articulating your point - eg. I used the Critical Commentary to cement the 'gay reading' aspect in A Streetcar Named Desire.
    However, it isn't obligatory.
