I sat AS maths this year, I got an A in stats in Jan, and am Expecting an A in pure and a low B/C In Mechanics from the June exams..

However We've just been told we're switiching to the new schemes next year, meaning instead of M2 P2 and P3 we will be doing C1-4..
This renders our P1 exam from this summer useless, and whatever the grade in august - If we want to do full A level maths we BIN the result and do it all again as C1 in January - but C1 is a non calculator paper

Im livid!! They could've started with the new year group and left us on the old scheme but the decided agaisnt it - and I did so well on that pure exam - I know it and M1 went sooooo badly but I have to carry it over as an applied module..

If I have to resit M1 that means 5 maths modules in A2 year, which is rather a challenge

Under the new syllabus you will have one less applied maths module to do. So next year the school can concentrate on just teaching and improving the students' standards in pure maths - for the last two summers many have found the P3 exam very difficult. In my view this relates to a lack of time to master the ideas. The November exam could be used to improve your mechanics grade.

While I think the school is right to advise single maths students to change to the new syllabus, you have a point about contracts and choice. Present Year 12 students signed up to a course of 3 pure and 3 applied modules. You could argue that the school is breaking its contract to you by forcing you to study the new syllabus. Also many may feel that learning 1 stats & 1 mechanics module is worthless and would prefer to study 2 mechanics modules or two stats modules.

You're certainly not the only one annoyed about this, my college is doing the same and I'm really pissed off!
...Especially as I think I did best in Pure 1 out of all my exams...I'm really annoyed I wasn't told about these changes before the exam. There's been more disscussion about this topic here.
