So, I've been watching alot of motovlogs and even talking to my friends I've figured out that you can lock up your brakes and I was wondering how do you prevent this? I've heard and seen alot of crashes caused by this.

What do you mean lock up your brakes? You mean lock the wheels up? Newer bikes now come with ABS which means its not possible to do that, and if not then you have to best use your judgement and not just slam the brakes on.

Too much pressure on the brake handle will lock the front up. You'd be amazed how little is needed.
It's not something you'll do with a bit of experience. You can easily lock up on gravel but don't forget you can always let go and then reapply. Also, diligent use of the back brake will help you out a lot. A lot of bikers, and by a lot I'm talking about crap bikers, don't bother using the back brake at all.
