well my da is a vet and he earned around 20 grand when he just started and now he earns around 60 grand i think but he owns a successful practice and has 20 years experience!the average salary depends on experience and the size of practice you work in so it can vary a lot!
I dont actually know any figures, but given that the veterinary proffession is a genuine proffession, and that all members of the other proffessions are well paid, it cant be bad pay. I fancy that low figures are banded around to put off less motivated would-be-vets. Given the shortage of vets in the country, i geuss salaries must be ok to attract all of the foreign vets in this country.
ive been to 2 completely different, small animal vets.
One was a big, expensive practice and there was about 10 vets there, plus they had other practices elsewhere with more and the vets said they were on about 35,000 each and the partners in the practice were on a lot more.
However, i also go to a small animal vets with 2 vets and the owner is on very little money and so is the other vet (although she only works 2 days a week).
I'm not sure about large animal vets, they may get more or less
i guess it just depends on the success of the practice and how much time/ money they invest into the company. x
Starting salaries are usually from £20,000 a year. Experienced veterinary surgeons may earn between £30,000 and £45,000. Very experienced vets and partners may earn up to £65,000 or more.
20k is a lot more than most people in their early twenties earn anyway
ye, but my friend was looking at a job in the council which requires 5 GCSEs above a C, and that started at just over £15k. They then paid for your futher training so I guess it's all relative. May be a bigger salary but we also have 5 years of uni debt to pay off...
But obviously being a vet would be a way better job in the end
now i know it's not quite as simple as this, but let's be honest- if you were in it for the money in the first place, you would have probably become a human doctor/surgeon rather than a Vet For all the training and such, the money is far from great...
but we do get to play with all the cute little rabbits and dogs and cats and hamsters and horses and aligators and snakes and scorpion thiniges and SPIDERS!!
if someone bought me their pet spider to examine, I'm afraid it might get squashed *shudders*
the point i was trying to make is that our salary includes (hopefully) great job satisfaction ^^
i hate it when i tell someone im goin to be a vet and they automatically say, oh you wont ever need to worry about money again. im not goin to earn that much. i mean i heard doctors usually end up earning double what a vet earns (unless the vet owns his/her practice)
