    There's part of this question which asks to calculate the reaction force exerted on each rider.

    I understand that for A I need to do R = weight + centripetal force

    And I know that for B I need to do R = centripetal force - weight but I do not understand why. Any explanation?

    Because to me that looks like

    At A the resultant force is Centripetal force - weight

    At B the resultant force is Centripetal force + weight

    It's not resultant force, it's the reaction force of the floor on the rider

    Reaction force is the force put on the person by the cage. At B R is acting downwards and so is weight.

    Because centrapetal force acts towards the centre. The bottom man A would be R - W as W is acting down
    As where for B bith R and W is acting towards the centre
