A = 480
B = 420
C = 360
D = 300
E = 240

That's out of 600, at the end of both years. The average score though? Well I imagine a lot of people get B's and C's, so something in that range.

The average UCAS score is probably around 300 points I would imagine - that's the equivalent of 3 Bs at A level.

You can look at the Times Good University Guide 2007, and it will tell you the average UCAS points for people admitted to each university and for each course at each university.

:ditto: I don't think there's an overall average, but you can get the average for each uni, for each course at each uni and probably for each school/college via league tables.

Thelfo: Those are UMS marks, not UCAS points. UMS marks- the scaled marks out of 300/600 that you get in an AS/A-level. UCAS points- how much each grade is worth to unis if they use the tarrif points system (A=120, B=100, C=80, D=60, E=40.)
Oh I see THAT's what you were referring to. But isn't that a bit of an iffy subject? - wouldn't it be better to look at grade requirements?

It can all depend on where someone is applying. Extra-curricular things (such as ABRSM Music Grades, for example) can provide UCAS points to help towards your score and some universities may specify a minimum points score for courses rather than/as well as grades. However, depending on where you're looking in the league tables, I believe that the higher you go, the less likely it is that a university will be using the tariff system - i.e. stick to grades and ignore points.

Isn't it a bit crazy that now 3 Bs is the average??! (if it is..?).. I mean it really should be quite a bit above average! Afterall ABCDE are all pass marks - B is supposed to be above average!.. GRR..:mad:

EDIT: just checked it on the grades analyser thing: apparently the average score is around CCCb:

Your percentile is 52.06%. This means that you outperformed around 67700 people in these exams. It also means that you stand at around place 62300 out of all 130,000 students. Finally, it means that only around 1 in every 2 students taking AS/A Level have your level of ability and above.

Yeah, that was what I was used to seeing. Tariff points were hardly used, it was mainly grade requirements. But Tariff points certainly have their advantages!

I was guessing that the average was BBB, however, shortly after putting it I thought i'd probably guessed too high, but didn't bother changing it.

When you say "your" do you mean me? (I assume you've looked at my signature and seen that I have the equivalent of BBB)

Also, could you give me the link for that grade analyser please?

EDIT - I may be misunderstanding you, but if you're talking about 3 Bs in that bold section of your post, surely BBB is the average if i'm 67700 out of 130,000 students? (about half-way)

Ah no I hadn't looked at your signature - I just copied what the grade analyser says about CCCb... BBB was quite a bit better in the percentile - I think it's better than top third.

The link for it is http://www.gradeinfo.co.uk/

For my GCSEs:

Your percentile is 97.13%. This means that you outperformed around 631300 people in these exams. It also means that you stand at around place 18700 out of all 650,000 students. Finally, it means that only around 1 in every 40 students taking GCSEs have your level of ability and above.

It then predicted my A levels would be AAAa. IF ONLY.:rolleyes:

Those kind of things are interesting but I hope people don't use them to predict what they're actually going to get. For me GCSEs was easy marks for little work - A Levels are very different!!!

After entering my GCSE results the prediction for my A level results were as follows:

Your predicted number of AS/A Level Points is 80. This is the equivalent of achieving EE.

If you were to achieve the above grades it would give you an AS/A Level Percentile of 3.56%. It would also mean that you would be beating around 4600 pupils taking the exams.

EE :eek:

I guess I really am a late developer, I did a lot better than that needless to say.

For my GCSEs:

Your percentile is 57.93%. This means that you outperformed around 376500 people in these exams. It also means that you stand at around place 273500 out of all 650,000 students. Finally, it means that only around 1 in every 3 students taking GCSEs have your level of ability and above.

Not too shabby. But then there's this:

A-levels

Your percentile is 16.37%. This means that you outperformed around 21300 people in these exams. It also means that you stand at around place 108700 out of all 130,000 students. Finally, it means that only around 1 in every 1 students taking AS/A Level have your level of ability and above.

Eeep! :eek:

hey guys the gradeinfo system is only giving you average progressions from gcse to alevel. The truth is that the actual progressions vary grossly around this mean value.
Reply 15
It can't be right. According to that, if I get AABB, I'll be in the 99.98th percentile - best of every 130,000. No way is that accurate.

didnt type in correctly mate
read the instructions
if uve done a2 levels - dont type in ur as levels

ur actual one:

Your percentile is 93.25%. This means that you outperformed around 121200 people in these exams. It also means that you stand at around place 8800 out of all 130,000 students. Finally, it means that only around 1 in every 15 students taking AS/A Level have your level of ability and above.

Tariff points were realigned a couple of years ago. From 2001-2015 a B was 100 points, now it’s 40 points. This thread is from 11 years ago.
