    Yes it would say how,the data had been coded.

    One possible exception might be if the question said there had been a mistake in how a variable had been measured or recorded and e.g. All values were 10 too large.. You could use coding principles to work out the affect on mean, standard deviation, correlation etc without recalculating the data.
