Function graphing and science calc queries.... Watch

1. Hi all.... a couple of minor queries that have been bugging me!

1) Something is going on with my calculator and trig functions.

As an example:

When I put in.... sin(pi/2) = 0.02741

But yet the example I am working though has the answer = 1. I have seen these contrasting answers also with online sci calculators.

I know the answer should be 1, so what is going on with my calculator (Casio fx-83GT plus)?!?

2) From a pure maths perspective, when you graph a function, whatever the x-axis is labelled as ie) usually x but other times you see t or s, then strictly speaking should the y-axis always instead be labelled f(x) or f(t) or f(s), to denote the fact that it is a function of.......?

I know quite often you will see the label y=f(x)= x2 + 3 for example placed on the graphed function itself.

Quite often you still see the axis labeled as just the y-axis, but I have seen other examples where they are a bit more rigorous with their labeling.

Thoughts/opinions?
