So I left university recently because I hated my course. I decided I'd like to study a different course at a different uni however A Level Biology is required. I only studied AS (and did badly due to health reasons, so dropped it after the first year and did a science BTEC instead).
I am currently waiting to hear back from the new uni as to whether I've done enough biology in my BTEC. Honestly, I really doubt the BTEC has covered enough considering only a small portion of A Level material was included in it for the biology units.

So basically if I am told that I haven't done enough, I am more than happy to take a year out and 'fast-track' the whole A Level by myself. When studying AS (before the health problems hit hard) I was achieving A's and it came so easy to me, I am confident that I can do well as a private candidate.

My questions are, especially to anyone that has been a private candidate before, how much does it cost, roughly, and also how do you go about getting the practical exams done? (I am thinking the AQA course here btw).

It will definitely cost more than £350 I think but it depends how much the exam centre charges you to sit your exam

The cheapest practicals I've been able to find are £200 a shot, most centres will charge about the £50-60 to sit the papers. If you want to self study the entire a-level taught you will probably be looking at about £625.00 (from the NEC)

I'm assuming you'll be studying the new 2015 A-level? I'm a private candidate studying Chemistry, Biology and Physics on the new AQA spec, and I've paid £350 per subject for the course materials as I'm self-taught.

The good thing is you do all the exams next year: there is a lot to cover, but I started in Jan and I think if you apply yourself and work hard it's achievable. The stumbling block is finding an exam centre who will offer the practical exam elements, and the cost associated with that.

Price is pretty steep: I'm looking at £1550 per subject for written exams and practicals, as you have to do all the practical exams externally too (There are LOTS of them!). It's looking like I will have to travel to London to do it all (I live in Suffolk).

Feel free to drop me a message if you want to ask any specifics!

Which centre did you choose, as im struggling to find a cheap centre for the new a level biology spec and im looking to do it with three a levels, so who does the reference and predicted grades as its privately - which in my case for aqa a level bio.
