Hi, i'm doing an level 3 extended diploma in IT and was wondering what everyone's average word count is per unit to see if I am doing enough work for the grade I would like.

For me I would say it is about 5,000 words per assignment so around 20,000 words per unit. Some have been much longer (10,000 - 20,000 per assignment) while some of the earlier assignments were only around 2500 words each. All of my units apart from 1 have had 4 assignments. I would guess it depends a lot on what you teacher sets and then expects back. One of my teachers was very practical and didn't expect so much in terms of words but was more interested in how we presented the topics on the websites we had created.

    Hope that helps

I'd agree with the above user if I had to say for average. (Some units I've only done around 5,000 for, but then there's others that have amassed 15,000-30,000 just depends on the nature of the unit, whether it's written work based, or practical based, and the operative verbs used on the criteria). But I wouldn't use the word count as a yardstick for whether you've done a task sufficiently enough or not to be signed off on it.
