I bought a gold coin once from thegoldbullion.co.uk but there are lots of other reputable websites out there which do the same thing. I think I paid about £50 more than the value of the gold (which is standard when you buy small amounts), so the gold price has to rise significantly before I can get my money back.

Should you invest in gold, probably not. But if you just want to buy something cool to go on your shelf, why not?

Investing is like a gambling, because you can predict what will happen. But that's just a probability. You can fail.

bet way are to know what you looking for and go to one of the following
    -a chain or high-end pawnbrokers
    -a jewellers
    -eBay
-private advertisement in a local paper or in the local area

the high-end pawnbrokers will have dozens of gold coins and bars available to view and buy in all sizes
the chain store might have a few but it will be small coin mainly
a jeweller might have one in stock
eBay the trick is to look at it and look at the auction for full Krugerrands if they are £700 or more then it's real
a private ad can get people to sell a coin they have and you might get offered other stuff that could be profitable to sell on as well as getting your gold coin or bar

The best British site is hatton garden metals but shop around if there is a particular coin you want.
Gold has shot up big time on the back of Brexit, literally £150 an ounce or so. it was £700 an oz just a few months back, is now a £1000 an oz.. As to whether now is a good time? Well if anybody knew concretely, they would be a very very rich man

I have been stacking since 2014 and have accumulated a few oz's of gold and about 50ozs of silver. (Not so humble brag)

Avoid bullionbypost... simply by far the most expensive rip of bullion dealer in Britain

Also.. DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY ... if you are new to gold, you are not going to know you have just parted cash for a fake

    Multiple places depending on what kind you want;
Bullion/coins - Banks, certain specialist shops [harrods for example], duty free [some like dubai have gold exchanges]
scrap - car boot sales, antique stores and so on
ebay will always have it

It should be pointed out very few people buy the actual gold and keep bricks at home due to the obvious problem of expense and robbery. Like oil most peoples precious metal holdings are purely electronic in which instance you can buy it on any exchange or conversely in a gold mine.
