Hey guys, I am a first year maths student at Surrey; but I am fairly unhappy with my course so far. I've had strong thoughts about changing to Economics. If I were to do this it would probably mean I'd have to start off as a first year again. I have a few questions regarding this. Firstly, what do I do to get the ball rolling here? Who do I consult? And what are the implications of my student loan/grant? Any other additional advice would be lovely. Cheers!

If I were you I'd change to software Engineering and specialise in mobile networks. I heard surrey is leading the world in research for 5G mobile, if you learn what they're doing you'll have jobs left-right-and-centre in 2019

Interesting - I was unhappy with my course in first year so I'm switching to Financial Maths! You will need to contact a member of the Economics staff (likely the administrative staff - Helen Dee, contact details found here http://www.surrey.ac.uk/economics/people/index.htm). I would advise also considering emailing a member of the department to ask any questions you have about the Economics course.

In addition, you should email your personal tutor to express your concerns. If you decide to transfer, you will be required to fill in a Programme Transfer form with the relevant departmental signatures.

Shouldn't impact your loan or grant, dependent upon how long you've been in education for - just ensure that, if you have already applied, you update your Student Finance to indicate your change of course.

Good luck (if you haven't sorted it already)!
