# Enthalpy of combustion AS watch

1. Butane is sold commercially as “bottled gas”. It undergoes completecombustion according to the following equation:
2C4H10 + 13O2 → 8CO2 + 10H2O
and has a standard enthalpy of combustion of –2876.5 kJ mol21.
(a) Calculate the amount of energy released for every kilogram of carbondioxide released.

I have no idea how to do this question.
Can someone talk me through it?

Standard enthalpy of combustion is per mole of fuel.

Find out how many moles of carbon dioxide are formed per mole of fuel burned.

1 mol of carbon dioxide has a mass of 44g

Now find out how many moles are in 1000g

Multiply by energy per mole

This helped a lot, thank you!
