Your school should be ashamed of itself - holding a competitive style sports day where pupils can actually "win" races.

Hasn't the government told you all that competitiveness in sport has no place in modern schools?

Well now the best way to win a race like this is like this:

Run faster than all the other athlets. Since you are running the same distance and normal physics laws apply you will win.

It's a school sports day, so the level of competition will not be very high.

The bend is everything. Make sure you run the bend well. Lean into the bend and try to make your right stride slightly longer than the left. Stay as far left in the lane as possible.

Make sure you get your start right. If you don't have blocks you may find a standing start is easier than a crouching start. The start however, is not as crucial as in the 100 metres.

Just practise and practise.

Do you actually know what your letting yourself in for! I ran it for the school and at county for like 3 yrs c'est horrible! Basically don't go all out on the bend everyone will kill themselves and die when they see that final 100m, just coast the bend and yes as they say lean into it. You do need to have stamina for it though but don't get carried away cause everyone will go off too fast and unless you know you can keep a fair pace all the way then I would hang back abit and blast down the straight. Ideally if you want to win and want to know what your letting yourself in for, go the track this weekend- I think you'll be suprised, it is quite a long way :rolleyes:
