    Hi everyone!

So for the past year, I've been studying biomed at ukc, but its not the degree for me. The problem is, I want to switch to a completely unrelated degree - politics! Does anyone know what this would involve? Obviously I'll have to start again from first year and I'm ok with that, but I read that I'd have to fund the tuition fees myself, and its going to be hard enough explaining to my parents why I want to give up on a years worth of work and stay on an extra year at uni, without it costing an additional £9000! And would i have to reapply through UCAS, or could I speak to the university?

Edit: I just downloaded a student finance booklet that said I could still get funding if I change after first year, which is a relief!

As long as you do not start the second year in September, you will get funding for the full new degree. The formula is length of course plus one year minus years taken.

You could ask if your current university will allow you to swap courses, but if they won't, it'll be a new application via Ucas. Time is running out now and you will almost certainly be entered into Clearing, since that is what happens after June 30th. You might be better off dropping out, taking a gap year and making a proper application for 2017.
