I have an idea for starting a business and was wondering if registering as self employed would affect my loans / grant? (second year student from September). I don't expect it to make a lot of profit and will only be spending around 10 hours a week working on it.
If it would have an effect then how would I go about informing student finance since I don't know exactly how much I would make (if anything) and I wouldn't have to fill in my first tax return until the end of 2017
    any guidance would be appreciated

As a student only your unearned income (ie if you have huge investments or a trust fund) have to be declared as part of your income.

Any income from working or self employment isn't counted towards your loans/grant allowance.
