So what is this whole "we won, you lost" thing?

There is no win, there is no lose. Only actions and consequences that we must all face together.

The human race defines itself by conflicts and adversity. We, as a species, are biologically programmed to respond to the outcome of a confrontation, even one as abstract as a political debate.
"We won, you lost" is a trait of adversarial instincts which yields a physiological response to things either going the way you had hoped (a pleasure response) or things not going the way you had hoped (a pain response), more specifically, by telling yourself "I won" the physiological response of a positive confrontation outcome is evoked.

I'm sure the leave campaigners / voters would happily get rid of those Remainers when they get rid of the immigrants

There is no "us" to most leave voters

Especially in politics it's not a football 5 aside league for 10 and 11 year olds pathetic! There are wider and far reaching consequences beyond a puppy fat and crocodile tears.
