Ive never been to one myself, but I would like gays who have to tell me...what exactly goes on during these parades and gatherings? Is it just a load of horny gays trying to laid with each other?

In which case, surely only the best looking ones succeed (like every other weekend)? The uglies get glossed over (as usual).

So how can these marches engender PRIDE in the gay community?

Seems like a sham popularity parade to me.

I think they're just marches of pride?

Does them more harm than good tbh. A lot of the people they'd be trying to get to sympathise with them wont be converted by walking around the streets half naked covered in sex toys and harnesses.

I went to one today actually.
I myself am straight, but many of my friends are gay (why I have a lot of gay friends I have no idea) and invited me to go along (now my entire family thinks I am gay, see:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7hMlHlOrO4).
There was not much to do at the event overall other than buy merchandise, alcohol, food (£6 for a burger, wtf?) etc. but there was a march/parade however.
If anyone is curious of what this march consisted of, it was just mainly different people marching waving flags (most of them gay pride flags) in buses and on foot, one notable example was someone waving the North Korean flag (lolwut).
There were people like the navy, royal band (not sure what this is called and probably sound retarded right now), and other people such as Hilary Clinton supporters (no) and Buzzfeed (end me). Although I provide bad examples in this case, it was still nice to watch I guess and there was a good spirit. I didn't see many overly exaggerated/stereotypical people there who were fully in their underwear other than the few 3 or 4, a lot of them just looked like normal people of different creeds; and I did not see any stereotypical gay people within the parade/march.
If anyone wants to ask anything else about what these consist of, then feel free to ask since I went to one today.
