Apologies for being ignorant here, but do Chemical engineers have good work environments?

I am concerned that most jobs in this field will not be office based, but rather in factories/chemical plants where there's dangerous chemicals/fumes etc which isn't an ideal working environment.

If anyone can shed some light on this, so much appreciated!

You will probably be office based. There aren't a huge amount of tasks outside of the office that you can do as a chemical engineer that aren't able to be done cheaper by an operator or technician. So hence, you'll probably be office based, and factories and chemical plants have offices too.
