I heard you can get them back afterwards (if you ask), so they're probably kept in some storage facility.

Reply 2

you have to pay to do that though!

Reply 3

Like coursework, they have to be kept for a certain period of time, then eventually I imagine they are rubbished....recycled of course!

Reply 4

No no, they are turned into Rice Krispies.
Obviously.

Actually it's Smarties. That's where the phrase 'only smarties know the answer' originates from.

lol. Yeah, they will be kept in storage i think so that re marking and stuff can be done. If you ask for a copy back, you get a photocopy, not the original which is quite annoying. After the period of time, they probably will be recycled. (into more annoying exam papers for our A levels :frown: )

On a serious note, the marked exam papers are kept in a huge room, on shelves. There's a video on the AQA website which explains it all, really.

That's got to be the greatest comment someone could have made in response to the question. :p:

They're kept in a massive factory place in Milton Keynes (so you can ask for them to be remarked) for 8 years? Or maybe 10.. i can't remember... then destroyed. The papers which are computer marked are photocopied in Milton Keynes, some by people who have no idea what they are or poor english skills lol, which worries me a little i.e. if they don't take out papers which should be hand marked or notice when you go over the border for computer scanned papers -.-... then these examiners sit at home on their computer and the individual question they are in charge of marking (about 800 of them or summit) flashes in front of them and they give you whatever mark they give you.. :tsr2:

 No, I don't think they're kept there for 8-10 years. I think they only stay in the depot until december of the year you took your exam at the very latest, so that remarks can be taken etc. Imagine...there are about 7 million exam papers marked by AQA each year, and there are about 20 pages on a normal paper (getting all mathematical now:p:), and 10 years' worth would mean 70 million papers or 1400 million pieces of paper. What size of factory is this?:p: There's no need for the papers to be kept that long. It'd just clutter the depot up, and they don't do anything just sitting there 10 years after you took them:p:

Reply 17

so what happens to coursework after they've been marked?

Reply 18

I'm actually pretty sure it is 8 years now, 8 years before they're ditched... I remember speaking to an examiner about it after my Biology exam, because i went over the border.. so we ended up with a long conversation on this topic... the factory where the papers are photocopied and then stored... I'm not too sure on coursework, but i'm sure it is also kept for a while in-case future candidates copy... anyways, the government is banning coursework in like most of the subjects like MFLs, English, most humanities... so it probably wouldn't matter much now anyways

You can request the original back. It's cheaper too. But of course if you ask for a copy you'll get a copy.
