I have had my full license for two years now but since i have been in uni i haven't been driving so i haven't needed insurance. Now i want to get back into practice with my driving and as far as i know i would need to have insurance but my dad believes since it is his car that i will be driving and he will be in the car when i drive I dont need to be insured since he is. He doesn't want to put me on his insurance since it will be expensive and my sister is suppose to be starting driving lessons soon so she would also need to be insured too to practice in my dads car if i am not mistaken?

If you are driving you need to be insured for that vehicle unless your dad's policy is for any driver driving that car which is doubt it is.

As LionKing has said, unless the policy states otherwise, you will have to be insured on the car if you are driving.
