The way BTEC is graded can be a bit annoying. Let's say one unit has 3passes, 3 merits and 3 distinctions.
One unit grades go like this:
You have to get all the passes for the unit to get an overall pass. It doesn't matter if you get all distinctions but if you only have 1 or 2 passes out of 3, you have failed the unit.
You need all passes to get overall pass.
You need all passes and merits to get overall merit.
You need all passes, merits and distinctions to get overall distinction.
If you get all passes, 2 merits and all distinctions, you only get an overall pass because you didn't get all merits.
You could get all merits and distinctions but only 2 out of 3 passes and that counts as a fail.
